Not a ton to report today – we spent 7am to 5pm traveling from Barcelona to Paris, so the day was short on adventures. In good news, we are both feeling very good health-wise. In further good news, we are in Paris! It is incredibly hard to believe we are on the last leg of our journey. It’s been an amazing trip, and we’re glad it seems we’ll be in better condition for our last week.
The train ride went very smoothly, to our relief (they have not all gone smoothly). Stef has absolutely loved the train rides; they have been an event as worthy as any of the monuments we’ve visited, and it’s very sad to think this is the last one. Rail travel is truly wonderful, and we will miss it.
We’d seen the countryside from Barcelona to Lyon before, but it was really fun going from Lyon to Paris. The landscape was full of rolling farms, tranquil sheep and cows, and actual hedgerows separating the fields. Again, it’s so neat how the rural stuff is completely rural, and the towns and cities are so contained.
And then we were in Paris! Stef spoke the words aloud: “Great job, we haven’t gotten on a train going the wrong direction even once.” So of course immediately we got on a Metro train going in the wrong direction. We were 45 minutes late to meet our AirBnB host, but finally arrived at our final accommodations for this trip, a little studio apartment in a very new building in the Latin Quarter.
It looks great! Tiny kitchen that will cover our needs, spots for two people to sit, and the sweetest little back patio. And a washing machine – we had no idea how critical and time-consuming it would be to worry about laundry, and we are so happy to have that be easy this week.
We made a quick trip out to the magnificent grocery store next door, then headed to a bridge on the Seine to see if we could see some sunset. We didn’t really, but we did see the back of Notre Dame, a couple of Isles, and some serious Parisian scenery.
And that was it! We are thrilled to get into Paris tomorrow.
